Throughout the half, Kevin Branch II, Kavaun Smith, and Cody Coleman also had key plays on defense. This solid defense allowed the Flyers to get the ball and score on Jacques Cazeau’s 47-yard run.
Framingham trailed 14-7 at halftime.
Framingham failed to score on their first set of plays in the second half and turned the ball over to the Raiders. This allowed Wellesley to march down the field and make the score 20-7 with the help of a 20-yard touchdown pass. Despite the fact that the Flyers were down by 2 touchdowns, they didn’t lose determination and continued to play hard. The defensive lineman had some solid plays including a fumble recovery by Alexander Lopez which gave Framingham great field position. After coming close to the end zone with a touchdown in sight, the Flyers unfortunately threw an interception and couldn’t score. The clock ticked down while both defenses limited their opponent’s offense until the Flyers excited the crowd with a long pass from Cody Coleman to Marcus O’Brien. Coleman scored a touchdown a few plays later and Wellesley’s lead was cut down to 20-13 with 3:22 left in the game.
The Flyer defense then stopped the Raider offense and got the ball back with 20.6 seconds remaining in the game. Hoping to finish a miraculous comeback, Framingham sadly threw an interception and fell just short of a win.
The final score was 20-13 and this game was a great battle between the two teams.
Next week, Weymouth makes the long journey over to Framingham for a Sunday filled with action and excitement.
Make sure to come out and support the hard working Flyers next Sunday at the Framingham State University football field!
