Bears Claw to Championship Title Over Rams

The Framingham State men's soccer team lost to Bridgewater State 3-2 in the Conference Championship game over the weekend.

The Framingham State University men’s soccer team fell in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championship game on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-2 to Bridgewater State.

The Bears earn the conference’s automatic-qualifier into the NCAA Div. III men’s soccer championship.

The Rams see their season close at 7-13 and were the MASCAC Tournament runners-Up.

The Rams scored in the first minute of play when junior Simon Appiah scored after a lead pass by Ken Stahovish.

The Bears answered back tallying three unanswered goals in the 1st stanza. Andrew Chenard tied the score in the 18th minute with Conor Murtagh earning an assist.

In the 24th minute Murtagh headed in a free kick from Jonathan Pires to take a 2-1 advantage. Murtagh would strike again in the 41st minute when he again sent a header into the net this time with Pires & Diego DelasCasas assisting.

The Rams started their comeback early in the 2nd half when Stahovish drilled a long strike which hit the crossbar and redirected into the net. Senior Cory Cardeiro assisted on the score.

Junior Colin Jepson made seven saves in the win for the Bears while his counterpart Josh Arno ) made three stops for the Rams.

The Bears will await their NCAA opponent that will be released on Monday morning.
