Boston 2024 Set to Announce Overhauled Olympic Bid

Boston 2024 will release an overhauled framework of its original bid to host the Summer Games today, June 29.

Boston 2024 will release an overhauled framework of its original bid to host the Summer Games on Monday, according to the Boston Herald. The decision to do so comes after taxpayers across the state of Massachusetts have expressed great concern.

Skeptics are mostly concerned with how the new version plans to protect their pockets. Many residents worry they’ll be stuck paying to support the games through a major tax hike.

“The first bid was a conceptual bid, and now we’re moving to a very detailed, bottoms-up bid that we can share with the public,” Boston 2024 Chairman Steve Pagliuca said told the Herald on Sunday. “We’re going to publish every piece of data we have about the plan, the venues, the operating budget. We don’t have all the answers, but we’ve made a major leap forward.”

Those leading the push for the Summer Games say the public will not be called upon for money to fund the construction of Olympic venues or to operate the games, but they do want financial help for land acquisition and infrastructure.
