The Business Advisory Board at Framingham State University will host its Second Annual Student Coaching evening tonight, according to a press release.

The Framingham State University Business Advisory Board was formed under the direction of Professor Sandra Rahman, who is chair of the business department and a marketing professor.

The all-volunteer board is comprised of local business professionals as well as University staff. The board helps to connect business with students and the university to help ensure students are well prepared to seek employment and join the workforce.

The Student Coaching program was conceived using the model from Babson College.

The Framingham State University Business Advisory Board worked for over a year developing and formatting the University program, recruiting coaches, coordinating logistics and designing the content needed to roll out the program.

The first Student Coaching event was held in October 2014 with 20 students participating.

“After the first event, seeing how inspired the students were, we knew we were on the right path” said Lecia Shronce, Advisory Board Chair, in the release.

This semester’s event will serve nearly 70 students as part of their Organizational Theory class.

The Student Coaching program has trained over 100 area business men and women to participate in the event.

“It is a testament to how generous our business environment is to have these coaches donate their time, and their talent, to help our students in preparation for success after graduation.,” said Shronce.

Recently, the Framingham State University Business Advisory Board met with University President Javier Cevallos to discuss this program and how the board could hand ongoing operational responsibility to the university to ensure continuity for the coaching program and to provide enough scale to expand it for all Business majors, approximately 400 students.

And, while there, the board provided its extensive research on bringing a fully integrated Co-op Student Program into the University that would deliver the real life business experience integrated with classroom work.

“Everything the Board does is focused on providing a real life application to compliment classwork.” said Judi Teller, a Framingham State University Advisory Board Member.

“The FSU Business Advisory Board is very much a working board. Each member is dedicated to uncovering new ways to help students have a well-rounded educational experience that will best prepare them for their first job,” said Steve Devine, Bose Corporation, a founding Advisory Board Chair, and member since 2012. “I am consistently impressed with the level of commitment from each member.”
