Community Kiln Celebrates 1st Anniversary With Sale, Open House
Samples from the hundreds of ceramics created during the past year by students and their teachers are on sale.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Community Kiln is celebrate its first anniversary with a holiday sale and open house on Dec. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South Middlesex Opportunity Council’s (SMOC) Community Kiln program, 46 Park St.
Samples from the hundreds of ceramics created during the past year by students and their teachers, including plates, bowls, mugs, vases and more, are on sale at the event. A portion of the proceeds from the sale go to the artist and the Community Kiln Scholarship Fund to help financially eligible student artists, said the announcement.
“Currently, we have a total of 87 students participating in our ceramic classes, which does not include the children who also attend our programs here,” according to Program Coordinator Katie McCarren in a statement. “Our students come from communities all over the Metro West area and many of the artists who are selling their work on December 9th have attended classes for many years, including at the former Danforth Art program. I think people will be very impressed with the quality and artistry of these pieces.”

McCarren noted in the statement that all pieces on sale are handmade or wheel-thrown, making them unique gifts for the holiday season: “These are truly pieces that reflect the individuality of each artist. They are all products of talent and craftsmanship. Items for sale include plates, bowls, mugs, vases and sculptures.
In addition to the sale, the event will also serve as an Open House for visitors to walk around the Community Kiln studio and view students as they participate in actual classes. “It’s quite interesting to see how these beautiful products for sale began as lumps of clay which were carefully molded by hand or on a potter’s wheel into beautiful and useable works of art,” McCarren said in the press release.
