Congressional Delegation Urges President To Approve Commonwealth's Disaster Request

The Massachusetts Congressional delegation sent a letter last week urging President Barack Obama to approve Governor Charlie Baker’s request for federal disaster assistance following the severe winter storms that have caused historic snowfall accumulations in the Commonwealth this winter.

The letter highlights the unprecedented snowfall that impacted Massachusetts and the significant cost of state and local damages.

“Many communities throughout the Commonwealth incurred significant disaster response and recovery costs responding to the initial blizzard and subsequent record breaking snowfall,” the delegation wrote in the letter.

“Federal assistance is critically needed to help the Commonwealth repair public facilities and infrastructure damaged or destroyed by the storm, as well as to recoup the costs of snow removal and road treatment. We respectfully urge your timely approval of this request and we thank you in advance for your prompt consideration.”
