Downtown Framingham CVS Closing

A sign on the door at the CVS downtown says it will close at the end of the month.

A sign on the door at the CVS in downtown Framingham says it will close at the end of the month, and customers can shop at the soon-to-be-opened CVS, under construction down the road at Concord and Hartford streets in Framingham.

In 2013, Elie Youssef announced plans to build a 13,000 square foot CVS, where the Pepperoncini’s restaurant, a single-family home, and a couple of existing buildings existed.

In March 2014, the Framingham Planning Board unanimously approved the $3 million project, with a drive-thru, despite objections from some in the neighborhood about traffic.

Under site plan review, the Framingham Planning Board is not permitted to place restrictions on applicants, like keeping open existing stores in a community.

The new CVS at Hartford and Concord streets, according to the Planning Board application in 2013, said it would create 20 new jobs. It is unknown, at this publication, how many jobs, if any, would be lost with the closing of the downtown CVS store.

CVS is the second largest pharmacy chain after Walgreens in America, with more than 7,500 stores.

At the time of demolition, Pepperoncini’s owner Vince Loscerbo said he is considering re-opening the popular restuarant elsewhere in Framingham, but that has not happened.
