Framingham Democratic Town Committee to Open Consolidated Campaign Office: Press Release

The consolidated office will "pop up" on Worcester Road, with an opening reception featuring a taco bar and jab at Donald Trump.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Democratic Town Committee has announced the opening of a β€œpop-up” Consolidated Campaign office at 931 Worcester Road, which will be opening this week.

Starting Tuesday, the Committee will begin rolling out operations in advance of Thursday’s primary, which features two major local primary elections. There is a three-way race for the House seat being vacated by Tom Sannicandro which includes all of Ashland, plus precincts 8, 13, 14, 16, 17 and 18, of Framingham; with Jack Patrick Lewis, Phil Jack and Brett Walker squaring off with one another – the winner to face Yolanda Greaves, the Republican candidate. Incumbent Sheriff Peter Koutoujian is facing a challenge from Rebecca Brodie, a local prisoner’s rights attorney, and Barry Kelleher, a transport operator in the Sheriff’s office. The winner of this race will be challenged by Republican Angelo La Civita.

Senate Ways and Means Chair, Karen Spilka, will be facing a write-in challenge in the general election.

In addition to the local races, the office will host Metrowest for Hillary, Bob Jubinville for Governor’s Council, and the β€œNo on Question 2” initiative to educate voters to the truth about corporate interests’ initiative to lift the Charter School cap. The β€œYes on 2” proponents are using ads designed by the same ad agency that designed the fallacious β€œSwift Boat” campaign against Secretary John Kerry’s unsuccessful bid for the Presidency.

In addition, operations coming out of this office will work to get several New Hampshire Democrats elected. Governor Maggie Hassan is running for a seat in the the U.S. Senate to replace Kelly Ayotte, who has endorsed and been endorsed by Donald Trump, and who led the charge by Senate Republicans to block a new Supreme Court Justice nomination. Carol Shea Porter and Ann Kuster are running for the 1st and 2nd House districts in New Hampshire, respectively. The MetroWest Coordinated office is staffing both campaigns with phone banking and canvassing activities.

According to Town Committee Chair Beverly Hugo, β€œOur goals in opening this office include preventing a destructive and hate-promoting presidency of Donald Trump, to assure that the 7th Middlesex House District continues to be served by a capable and compassionate Representative, that the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office continues its work to promote cutting edge treatment of addicted inmates, and to ensure that people with democratic principles continue to represent us in all levels of government.” On the Charter Cap issue, Hugo says that, β€œthe presence of one charter school in Framingham has cost our town around $4.2 million in funds that could be better spent on funding the unique needs of our school system.” Hugo points out that state-wide, Charter Schools place a $400 million stress on public education budgets, contending that β€œthe funding formula is hurting our public schools. While charter education is preferred by some, the central issue in this ballot question is its effect on accountability, the funding mechanism and the oversight of β€˜Commonwealth Charter Schools.’”

Operations at the new office will include phone banking to battleground states, scheduling door-to- door solicitation of voters for local races as well as carpool trips to New Hampshire, distribution of campaign materials and meeting space for various campaigns.

The Grand Opening reception will be held on Friday evening – the night after the Thursday primary. In light of Mr. Trump’s statement following his trip to Mexico, that if Secretary Clinton wins the election, β€œthere will be a taco stand on every corner in America,” the theme of the opening will be β€œTacos on the Corner,” featuring a taco buffet!

The event will take place on Friday, September 8 th from 6 to 8 PM in our corner office at 931 Worcester Road (not on Rt. 9, but between Super Liquors and the old round library, near Mad Willy’s and CafΓ© Fresh Bagel). All Democrats who would like to volunteer in any capacity for the above initiatives are welcome to attend.
