Selectman, Jason Smith will be facing Jim Pillsbury. Smith has served 9 years on the Board and has been Chair twice. Smith has been a pillar of the youth athletic programs in Framingham for many years, and has served as a Selectman for three terms, chairing that Board twice.
There is one 3-year term for Selectmen available.
Beverly Hugo will be running in her fourth election for School Committee, and has served our schools for seven years. Hugo first filled the Board vacancy when Pam Richardson successfully ran for State Representative. Hugo, a former Boston Public and Brookline Public School teacher, is the current Chair, and has served three times in that capacity.
Also running for School Conmittee is Jim Kelly, a political newcomer, who is active in youth sports in Framingham, is a well respected national consultant in the education field, specializing in methods of college recruitment and student retention. Kelly has not run for office before.
Rounding out the field of three candidates vying for two seats is Scott Wadland, who serves on the Economic Development and Industrial Corporation.
There are two 3-year terms available for School Committee, as veteran Committee member Andy Limeri announced in the fall he would not seek re-election.
In addition, any registered Democrat running for town wide office will be welcome to address the attendees.
In addition to this event, the Committee will be voting on a new member to fill the vacancy left by Jeffrey Cox, who has recently transferred to Germany to assist the Defense Department with soldiers in need of social services. This Committee membership is open to any registered Democrat in Framingham. Nominations will be taken from the floor of the business meeting.
As always, the Town Committee will be collecting food and household articles for donation to Framingham’s shelters. All members are asked, and all guests are encouraged to bring imperishable food items of household goods to add to our donation.
Finally, members are encouraged to bring breakfast items to be served that morning, although the usual breakfast feast will be served.
Although there is no charge for this event, a $5 donation is encouraged to help defray the meal cost.
