Framingham Employee Recognized For Extinguishing Memorial Building Fire

Town of Framingham Code Inspector extinguished the fire and pulled the fire alarm, said Framingham Town Manager. "He really saved the day."

Last Wednesday, Town of Framingham code inspector Michael McCarthy was helping the Framingham Health Department, when he noticed an electrical fire in a light fixture.

McCarthy pulled the fire alarm and using a fire extinguisher put out the fire, explained Town Manager Bob Halpin to Framingham Selectmen Tuesday night.

“He really save the day,” said Halpin.

The June 10 fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived at the Memorial Building.

“It was a close call for the Memorial Building,” said Halpin.

The Memorial Building, built in 1926, houses a majority of the Town of Framingham’s municipal offices, including Halpin’s office.

“If the fire had reached the attic of the building, it would have been devastating,” Halpin told Selectmen.

Halpin said he recognized McCarthy’s heroic efforts with awarding him a Town Manager’s coin, and that he plans to have him before Selectmen at a later date.
