Framingham High Holds Honors Math Fair
Next up for the Algebra 2 Honors students is competing at the Math Expo on June 14 in Boston.

Framingham High School held its 5th Annual Algebra 2 Honors Math Fair on Wednesday.
Algebra 2 Honors students, working with a partner, spent an extended period of time exploring a topic or problem this year, explained math teacher Ilana Marcus.
After the research, students wrote up a solution to their problem. And finally, the pairs presented their problem and solution to the class.

The projects mostly consist of low threshold, high ceiling problems that require a bit of exploration, explained Marcus.
“Students are encouraged to extend their problem beyond the scope of only what is asked. Since they work together in their exploration, create a written result, and present to the class, it is a great way of developing the necessary 21st century skills that are so very important,” said Marcus.

The top presentations from each honors class, chosen by teachers, were selected to participate in the math fair in the high school’s library, said Marcus. Eight projects were highlighted this week at the fair.
Next, these students will participate in the Math Expo, organized by Focus on Mathematics, on June 14 in Boston. The event features student projects from several school districts.
“It is a really neat event that parents, family, and students can attend,” said Marcus.
Marcus and Algebra 2 Honors teacher Stephanie Adams organized the Framingham High Math Fair.
