Framingham, Marian High Competing in State's Drama Festival Today

Today, Feb. 28, Framingham High and Marian High schools will compete in the 2015 Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s Drama Festival.

The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $10 and available at the door of each venue.

• Framingham High competes at 11:15 a.m. at Brookline High
  
• Marian High School will stage Waving Goodbye at Brockton High at 12:15 p.m.
  

More than 100 high school will compete this weekend at 14 high schools in the preliminary rounds of the festival.

Framingham High has done well in the past making it to the finals of 10 of the last 12 years, including last year. They won in 2006. This year’s entry will by the drama company’s first ever production of a Tennessee Williams play.

The Framingham High Drama Company will stage Vieux Carré, autobiographical play, set in a boardinghouse in New Orleans. The play “reveals a young Tennessee Williams’ musings on life through a series of interwoven vignettes, featuring a colorful array of characters.”

During the competition, students must set up their stage within 5 minutes, perform within 40 minutes and take down the stage within 5 minutes during their performance. One second over and they are disqualified.

The entire production is students designed and executed, down to the set design, makeup, hair, sound, lights and costumes.

The semi-final round will be held on March 14. Framingham High is one of the host schools.

The finals this year are scheduled for March 26-28.
