Framingham Midget A Hockey Team Wins State Tournament

The Framingham Jr. Flyers Midget A hockey team won the State Tournament.

The Framingham Jr. Flyers defeated Arlington 3-0 on Sunday at Gallo Arena in Bourne.

The team was lead by shutout performances by goalie Alex Moore.

Moore’s dad had been battling cancer and was in poor condition when the team left Friday for the tournament.

Sadly, his dad passed way Saturday night.

On Sunday, Moore had two shutouts in the semifinals and finals.

Moore was an inspiration to every player on the team and the coaching staff, said Assistant Coach Charlie Stefanini.

The team, under head coach Brian Flaherty, is comprised of players from the Framingham youth hockey program U18 and U16 teams.

Framingham beat Acton-Boxboro last month to win the District 8 Championship and get a seed in the state tournament.

Framingham began the tournament with a 3-2 overtime loss Friday night to Arlington, the same team they would eventually defeat to win the championship.

On Saturday the Flyers came back to defeat the Cyclones (Brockton region) (3-2) and Brewins (Raychem-Taunton region) (3-0) to earn a berth in the semi-finals.

Sunday morning the Flyers defeated a strong Duxbury team 2-0 and then won the state championship with a 3-0 win over Arlington.

Members of the championship team are Jamie Brigham, Joe Christakos, Austan Bellefuille, Ben Stefanini, Joey Macinnis, Kevin McCarthy, Sam Barnett, Nate Nichols, Nick Pagano, Liam Flaherty, Joey Gilbert, Peter Dustin, Christian Seariac, Ryan Innis, Patrick Watton, Moore, and Ian McCarthy.

The other assistant coach on the team is Joe Macinnis.
