Suau was initially diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a rare pediatric cancer, after he fell off his snowboard in January 2017 and went to the doctor for a possible concussion. It was then that they found a tumor on his brain stem; it was inoperable.
He was given between eight months and two years to live, prompting his family to start the #WhynotDevin campaign to search for a cure. The social media campaign made it around the world, and continues to raise thousands for the cause.
