Framingham Police Use Taser Gun Twice on Southborough Man

Man, 47, wielding knife, also tried to steal a car from a Worcester man in Framingham Friday morning just before 7 a.m.

Framingham Police had to use a taser gun on a Southborough man twice Friday morning, just before 7 a.m. after he was wielding a knife, threatening to kill a co-worker, and tried to carjack a vehicle.

Robert Colon, 47, of Southborough, was booked at MetroWest Medical Center. He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, assault and battery and disorderly conduct, said Framingham Police Lt. Stephen Cronin.

A knife and a box cutter were recovered from Colon’s pants, said Lt. Cronin.

Framingham Police were called to Western Avenue at 6:50 a.m. for a report of a man with a knife threatening β€œnumerous individuals,” said Lt. Cronin. There were reports of a fight in the parking lot at 83 Western Avenue.

When officers arrived they encountered Colon, who ”immediately took a fighting stance with the officers yelling β€˜what are you going to do, shoot me?’” said Lt. Cronin.

One police officer advised Colon repeatedly to get on the ground. Colon refused and maintained a fighting stance at which time, the police officer used his taser gun on the Southborough man, explained Lt. Cronin.

Colon did not react to the taser and pulled out the probes from his torso, said Lt. Cronin.

Following a second deployment of the taser, again Colon showed no effect and removed the probes, said Lt. Cronin.

The Southborough man then moved towards the two Framingham officers.

Colon then approached a car, operated by a Worcester man, and attempted to commandeer the vehicle pulling him from the driver’s seat, explained Lt. Cronin.

β€œFearing Colon would carjack the vehicle and use it as a weapon in the crowded lot, officers drew their firearms, repeatedly ordering Colon to surrender,” explained Lt. Cronin.

It was later determined that the driver was able to remove the keys, when exiting the vehicle, said Lt. Cronin.

Additional Framingham Police arrived on the scene and eventually Framingham Police convinced Colon to finally lie down and he was taken into custody, said Lt. Cronin.

He was taken to MetroWest Medical Center for treatment, as that is protocol for all individuals, who have been hit with a taser gun, explained Lt. Cronin.

Interviews indicate that Colon had initially had words then threatened to kill a coworker, said Lt. Cronin. Those interviewed believed the Southborough man also was on drugs at the time of incident, possibly cocaine.

He was arraigned at Framingham District Court on Friday.

He plead not guilty to the charges.

The judge set bail at $3,000.
