UNE (12-7-0) advances to face top-seeded Wentworth Institute of Technology -- a 2-1 double-overtime winner over No. 8 Smith College. That semifinal-round game will be played Saturday at a time to be announced.
The Rams end their season at 11-8-2. The game was a rematch of last seasonβs title game when Framingham State claimed the championship in penalty kicks.β
Despite controlling play from the outset, the Norβeasters were unable to get into the scoring column until the 43rd minute when Murphy found the back of the net. Jessica Meader flicked ahead a pass from Harley Chute that Murphy tracked down before maneuvering her way around Framingham State goalkeeper Sara Sullivan at the top of the box.
Murphy made it 2-0 just 5:15 into the second half, taking a pass from Jackie Dickerson and driving a low shot past Sullivan for her seventh marker.
The Norβeasters then put the game out of reach when Pallozzi tallied three goals in a span just over four minutes. Her first goal came after Sullivan deflected her shot but the ball continued forward across the goal line. The next two were nearly identical in nature, as Pallozzi made runs towards the goal from the weak side and one-timed crosses from the left corner by Devon Wolfenden. Pallozzi now leads UNE with eight goals.
For the game, UNE led 26-9 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks.
Brielle Robinson needed three saves for the shutout, while senior Sara Sullivan had a busy day for the Rams, finishing with nine stops.
