Framingham Wrestlers Fundraising To Go To Nationals

A GoFundMe site has been set up to help some of the athletes attend the nationals. The team would like to raise $1,000.

“At the end of this month I will be taking a group of wrestlers down to Virginia Beach to compete at Nationals,” wrote Coach Erik Delehanty on the Wrestling Facebook page. “Framingham wrestling has a storied tradition and to continue this tradition we must seek out the best competition. I expect to bring home All-American plaques from several Flyers.”

“Not only is this event the most prestigious high school event, in any sport, throughout the country. It is modeled after the NCAA Division I Championship, the NHSCA High School Nationals Wrestling Championship affords athletes the very best competition in the country and best chance to be noticed by college coaches,“ wrote the site’s organizer Amy Williams.

One hundred percent of the funds raised will be used to offset the costs and help students who may otherwise be unable to participate.

In March, under the leadership of Framingham High School wrestling coach, Jon Kanavich, and Assistant Coach, Erik Delehanty, two Framingham Flyers placed in the 2015 New England Wrestling Championship.

Jake O’Brien, 195 lbs., placed 3rd with a victory over Vermont’s #1 wrestler and last year’s New England runner-up. With this victory O’Brien earned his 100th win for Framingham High. O’Brien also beat the Massachusetts and Maine State Champions.

Jake Stetson, 152 lbs., placed 5th in New England.
