Framingham's Katherine Grindeland Participated in Alternative Spring Break Program

Emerson College student Katherine Grindeland of Framingham, Massachusetts who’s majoring in Theatre Studies: Acting, traveled to El Paso, Texas in March 2015 as part of the College’s Alternative Spring Break program.

Alternative Spring Break is a yearlong leadership and community engagement program that culminates in a week long service immersion experience during spring break week (March 9-15).

The El Paso, Texas, program offered students the opportunity to better understand the issue of immigration in U.S. border communities.

Through hands-on service, participants engaged with immigrant support organizations in Boston and in El Paso, at the Juarez, Mexico, border.

They also learned about the issues of economic development, food justice, health, and human rights at the border.

Alternative Spring Break trips foster civic engagement and educate students on the prevalent issues of communities that are not their own. For more information on the program or how to donate, visit the Emerson website.
