Halberstadt Qualifies for All-State Meet in Pentathlon

Framingham High junior captain Paul Halberstadt finished second in the pentathlon in the Division 1 track & field championships on Saturday.
The Framingham High boys track team scored 15 points at the championship meet, said head coach Chris Collins.
Halberstadt, by finishing second in the Division 1 meet qualified for the all-state meet Saturday, June 6 in Fitchburg.

In the pentathlon, he leaped 19 feet, 1.5 inches in the long jump, thre 35-feet, 7.75 inches in the shot put, jumped 5-feet, 7.75-inches in the high jump, ran the 110-meter hurdles in 17.31 seconds, and finished he 1,500-meter run in 4:38 for a total of 2927 points.
Senior captain David Welch finished in sixth place in the pentathlon.

He leaped 18-feet, 11.25 inches in the long jump, threw for 39-feet, 7.75 inches in the shot put, finished at 5-feet, 5.75-inches in the high jump, ran the 110-meter hurdles in 17 seconds flat, and completed the 1,500-meter race in 5:08.1 seconds.
Junior Marc Umumbu with a throw of 145-feet,5-inches finished in seventh place overall in the discus, said Collins.
Junior captain Mike McDonald finished in seventh place in the mile in a time of 4:32 minutes.
“Mike was elbowed, tripped, and pushed at different points in an overcrowded race but still performed admirably,” said Collins.
Junior Ben Kirchman improved his 110-meter hurdle time from the Bay State Championships of 16.4 seconds to 16.03 seconds at the Division 1 meet, said Collins.
Brendan Retalic, a sophomore, has a superb split of 51.7 seconds in the 4X400 relay. The Flyers finished in 3.35 minutes. Other members of the relay were Junior Chris Barone, Sophomore Matt Kimmelstiel and senior Vinicius Tavares.
