Hoops and Homework Fundraiser at Jack's Abby Beer Hall
Tickets are still available for the Monday, Nov. 9 event, to support an after-school program that helps at-risk youths in Framingham.

Three years ago, Herb Chasan encouraged his fellow Town Meeting members to approve an after-school program to help at-risk students in Framingham. Chasanβs Hoops & Homework program opened in mid-2013. Today, Hoops & Homework operates programs in the Beaver Street and Waverly Street neighborhoods.
βWe serve 60 of the most disadvantaged and underprivileged kids in town,β said Chasan.
On Monday, Nov. 9, the program, which is now supported by grants and donations, will hold a fundraiser at Jackβs Abby Beer Hall on Clinton Street, to celebrate its anniversary.

βFamilies do not pay for our program,β said Chasan. βThere are no transportation costs either, as kids walk to the center.β
Also during the event, Chasan will be honored by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees.
On Nov. 6, Chasan will receive the community leader award from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, for his work to support students in the Framingham Public Schools.
The Framingham School Committee and Massachusetts Association of School Committees will make a local presentation to Chasan at the Nov. 9 fundraiser, which starts at 7 p.m.
In nominating Chasan for the state award, the Framingham School Committee wrote βHe is a true testament of how one man can have a profound effect on a school community. Mr. Chasan has a good heart, noble intentions, and has made the town a more cohesive and appealing community. He has enriched countless studentsβ lives through his efforts.β
This is not the first time Chasan has been honored for his efforts.
In September, Framingham Youth Football and Cheerleading, presented Chasan with its Heroes Among Us Award.
In 2011, Framingham Patch awarded Chasan with the Man Who Made A Difference Award.
