Two Medals of Liberty and a Bronze Star were presented to families at the Town of Framingham’s Memorial Day program on Monday, May 25.
The Massachusetts Medal of Liberty, awarded to service men or women killed in action, were given to the Moran and Mitchell families.
A Bronze star, a Prisoner of War medal and 8 other medals were given to Carolyn Sullivan by Congresswoman Katherine Clark to honor her late husband Bernard, who was captured during the Battle of the Bulge, and died in 1990.

Michael Moran received the medal for his uncle Francis Moran, whose bomber crashed on August 17, 1944, while returning from night operations over Corsica, Italy.

The guest speakers for the town’s Memorial Day program were Captain Douglas Morrison and his wife, Captain Alissa Morrison.
Douglas, who grew up in Framingham and graduated from Framingham High, asked those in attendance not to thank a Veteran, but to ask a Veteran to tell a tale of a Veteran, who is no longer with us.
The couple, who are expecting their first child, are stationed at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
The Town of Framingham’s program yesterday included a horse color guard from the National Lancers, out of Framingham, as well a color guard provided by the Framingham Fire Department.
Marching in the parade along with the color guards, the Veterans and the politicians were Framingham Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts from Pack 78, Boy Scouts from Pack 12 and Boy Scouts from Pack 21.
The Scouts led the crowd in the pledge of allegiance and Girl Scout Isabella Petroni sang the National Anthem.
Robert Anspach gave the invocation and benediction, yesterday.
Framingham State Rep. Chris Walsh talked about the importance of ”citizen soldiers” in American history.
Also during yesterday’s program VFW Post 929 Commander Nick Paganella announced the winner of the Christa McAuliffe flag pole dedication contest.
