It's Moving Week For Framingham School Administration

Selectmen and School Committee approved a 5-year lease for new Framingham Public Schools administrative offices in January.

Framingham Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott, and his administrative team, are moving this week.

In January, Framingham Selectmen and Framingham School Committee both unanimously voted to sign a 5-year lease with the Perini Corporation to move the Framingham Public Schools administrative offices.

The lease was from Feb. 1, 2015 to Jan. 31, 2020, at more than $335,000 a year.

The new administrative offices will be located at 73 Mount Wayte Avenue.

Previously, Selectmen had rejected the lease, citing possible health and environmental concerns with the building. Framingham Town Manager Bob Halpin told the School Committee in January, those concerns have been eliminated after an independent health report and a letter from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. (MassDEP).

Last year, the Framingham Public Schools to address overcrowding opened the King Building as the community’s ninth elementary school. Presently, there are kindergarten classes in the building with administrative offices.

In August, King will have both kindergarten and first grade classes. Each year, the district plans to add a grade until the school is a full K-5 elementary school.

In 2010, school administration offices were forced to move out of the Maynard Building due to mold issues.

Some offices move to Fuller Middle, including the Superintendent’s office, but some offices moved to the former Juniper Hill School.

The district spent more than $500,000 to consolidate administrative offices to the King Building a couple of years ago. BLOCKS preschool moved from King to the former Juniper Hill school, when administration consolidated at King.

In Nov. 2014, four bids were submitted to the Town of Framingham for school administrative offices.

Perini’s bid $338,000 a year. This was the second request for proposals (RFP) made for school administration offices this year. In early 2014, the Framingham Public Schools put out an RFP for office space to lease. The only bidder was the Perini Building at $328,000 a year.
