Keolis Fined Max Amount For Commuter Rail Snow Delays

The region's entire transit system is under pressure after service failures during the recent storms.

Keolis International, which operates Massachusetts’ commuter rail system, has been fined more than $434,000 by the MBTA after nearly two-thirds of trains were late or canceled during the six weeks of heavy snowfall in the region.

The Framingham/Worcester Line has had many cancellations and delays between Jan 25 and now.

The Boston Herald reported that the commuter rail company had an on-time performance rate of roughly 35 percent during the storms of late January.

Although Keolis CEO Bernard Tabary apologized last week for the breakdowns and delays, the company is disputing the fine. Keolis says the snowfalls were acts
of nature beyond its control.
