LETTER: 'Guns Present a Clear and Present Danger to the Public Health of Our Children'

"Violence of any kind has no place in our schools, colleges, and universities," states Framingham School Committee member Eric Silverman.

As a member of the Framingham School Committee, I extend my deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and victims of the senseless shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

Nothing could possibly justify this horror.

Sadly, such tragic events are far too common at schools in American today. I join with most of the educational community of the nation and affirm my steadfast belief that violence of any kind has no place in our schools, colleges, and universities.

As this horrible event so clearly shows, guns present a clear and present danger to the public health of our children.

I call upon educational leaders everywhere to redouble our efforts to teach tolerance for diversity and to purge violence and guns from the education and lives of young people.
