Marian Mainstagers Win Acting, Set Awards

Marian High School qualified for the semifinals of the Massachusetts Drama Festival over the weekend.

The Marian Mainstagers earned a spot in the 2015 Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s semifinal round, with their performance of Waving Goodbye in the preliminary round on Feb. 28, at Brockton High.

The semifinals will be held on Saturday, March 14 at Norwell High. Marian is set to perform at 11 a.m.

Waving Goodbye is the “story of Lily Blue, a 17-year-old photographer who loses her father in a mountain climbing accident, and must spend her 17th year with the mother who abandoned her,” according to playscripts.com.

Marian students Greg Estes and Brendan Dilbarian won acting awards. Estes for his role as Jonathan Blue and Dilbarian for his role as Boggy.

Marian won an Award for Set Design, which was given to student Jack Brady.

Marian also won an Award for Set Decoration, which was given to students Alicia Franchi and Samantha Hansen.

During the drama competition, students must set up their stage within 5 minutes, perform within 40 minutes and take down the stage within 5 minutes during their performance. One second over and they are disqualified.

The entire production is student-designed and executed, down to the set, makeup, hair, sound, lights, and costumes.
