McDonald Crowned League Champion in Mile

Framingham boys track senior captain David Welch placed in three events at the Bay State League Championships in Braintree.

Junior captain Mike McDonald was crowned Bay State League champion in the mile.

McDonald finished first in the event at the Bay State League Championships in Braintree on Tuesday, said boys outdoor track head coach Chris Collins.

McDonald’s time was 4:26.09 minutes.

“The Flyers had a superb night,” said Collins.

“The boys were led by senior captain David Welch, who placed in all 3 of his events,” said Collins

  • Welch placed seventh overall in the 110-meter hurdles race with a time of 16.72 seconds.
  • He placed fifth overall in the triple jump with a leap of 40-fet, 9.5 inches.
  • He placed sixth overall in the javelin with a throw of 152-feet, 3 inches.

Junior Chris Barone, after being tripped and nearly falling at the start of the 800 race, said Collins, finished in second place in the league in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:01.02 minutes.

Junior Marc Umumbu finished in second place overall in the discus with a throw of 150-feet, 11 inches.

Junior Ben Kirchman with a time of 16.13 seconds finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Junior captain Paul Halberstadt finished in seventh place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 60.76 seconds. He also placed 10th in the javelin.

Senior Andrew Harrod finished in 13th place out of 33 runners in the mile.
