National Community Development Week Kicks Off In Framingham

FRAMINGHAM, MA—The city's Community Development Department is celebrating National Community Development week by dedicating each day to a key resource supported by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME).

These planned events are part of the National Community Development Association’s week-long celebration to bring citizens, government officials, businesses, media and nonprofit organizations together to showcase the impacts of the CDBG and HOME in communities. National Community Development Week also serves as a venue for educating the public about the programs.

Monday, April 2, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. -12: 00 p.m.
Community Development Office, Suite B3, Memorial Building
Professional development information session by SMOC Career Services and Metro SouthWest American Job Center.

Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. -12: 00 p.m.
Community Development Office, Suite B3, Memorial Building
Business technical assistance by Downtown Framingham, Inc., formerly Framingham Downtown Renaissance.

Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
Butterworth Park, 261 Grant Street
Tour of past and pending projects sponsored by CDBG and other leveraged funds over the years at Butterworth Park.

Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Memorial Building Rotunda
Current and past CDBG-sponsored agencies will be in attendance to talk about their programs and services.

Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

Groundbreaking on major renovations at the SMOC owned facility, subsidized by HOME funds.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides the CDBG funding to over 1,200 state and local government activities such as housing rehabilitation, business assistance, senior services, infrastructure and more. The HOME program provides grants to over 600 local participating jurisdictions to create safe sanitary and affordable housing in communities nationwide.
