Panthers Skate Past Rams 9-2

Framingham State freshman Jake McKinnon scored his fifth goal of the season in as many games, in the team's loss.

Plymouth N.H.- The Framingham State men’s ice hockey team fell on the road to Plymouth State by a score of 9-2 in MASCAC action Thursday night at Hanaway Rink.

Junior Michael Economos and senior Josh Woody each recorded hat tricks for the Panthers. Woody added an assist to his total for a four-point night, while senior Andrew Wigg and junior Tommy Dowell also collected four points with four assists apiece.

The Panthers defeated the Rams for the sixth straight time, improving to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in Conference. games.

Down 5-0 early in the second period, Framingham tallied consecutive goals to get back in the game, but PSU outscored the visitors 4-0 in the final period to seal the win.

Plymouth State got on the board just 39 seconds into the game when a shot by Dowell went off Economos’ skate in front for a 1-0 lead. Junior Dan Dupellscored on a feed from freshman Matt Volonnino Hacketstown, N.J.) five minutes later to make it 2-0, and freshman Colby Lanceleve found the net on a give-and-go from Wigg less than two minutes after that to push the lead to 3-0. Economos notched his second of the game on a shot from the right circle with six minutes on the clock on a play set up by junior Tord Thoresen for a 4-0 lead after one period.

Volonnino snapped a shot from the left circle on a Panther power play five minutes into the second period for a five-goal lead. The visitors showed some life with consecutive goals less than four minutes apart late in the period as freshman Jake McKinnon snapped a wrist shot through the goalie’s pads for his fifth goal of the season, and junior Mark Essery brought the Rams to within 5-2 at the end of the middle frame.

The Panthers poured it on in the third period. Woody tallied power play goals at 1:36 and 11:48 before Economos finished off his hat trick at 15:38 and Woody did the same at 17:16. Plymouth finished 3-for-4 on the power play and out-shot the Rams, 36-22.

Senior goalie Gordon Ceasar remained undefeated on the season (4-0-0), making 20 saves. Junior Alessio Muggli and freshman Adam Calabrese combined for 27 saves in the Rams net.
