📰 News we're reading

1. Newly accessible Framingham MA nature trail adds boardwalk, bridges (metrowestdailynews.com) — Framingham has completed major accessibility upgrades to the Carol Getchell Nature Trail, adding ADA-compliant paths, new bridges, and a 1,000-foot boardwalk along the Sudbury River. Funded largely through the city’s Community Preservation Act program plus state grants and private partners, the phased project improves wheelchair and stroller access and will soon link the trail’s north and south sections for easier neighborhood use.

2. Framingham State Launches Pathway to Medical School With UMass Chan (wror.com) — Framingham State University is launching a new BaccMD pathway with UMass Chan Medical School, giving its students a clearer route into medical careers. The program targets economically disadvantaged and first-generation students, offering advising, summer enrichment, MCAT prep, and clinical exposure. Local pre-health advisors are already recruiting the first cohort of Medical Scholars.

3. Golden Tones Chorus continues to entertain MetroWest (wickedlocal.com) — A lively group of about 60 retirees in the Golden Tones Chorus is keeping music alive with rehearsals at Edwards Church in Framingham. Now in its 37th season, the chorus prepares for roughly 40 concerts a year. Recent photos capture members warming up, singing, and leading practice right here in town.

4. Beloved Pizza Chain Closes Stores In MA (patch.com) — UNO Pizzeria and Grill has closed three more Massachusetts locations, adding to a string of shutdowns that already included its Framingham restaurant in 2024. While five UNO locations remain in the state, the loss of the Framingham site and others highlights the chain’s shrinking local footprint and may change dining options for residents who used to visit those spots.

5. Kennedy names two new members to CDC vaccine advisory committee (healio.com) — A Framingham-based maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Adam Urato, has been appointed by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the CDC’s key vaccine advisory committee. Alongside a Florida OB/GYN, he’ll help shape controversial new recommendations on vaccines in pregnancy and childhood immunizations, with the panel meeting again in late February.
