Rams Close Out Regular Season With 13-10 Loss to Owls

The Framingham State University women’s lacrosse team closed the regular season with a 19-13 loss to conference leader Westfield State University Saturday morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Maple Street Field in Framingham.

With the win, the Owls finish the season 12-4 overall and 7-0 in the Conference, and are the 2015 MASCAC Regular Season Champions.

The Rams close the regular season at 9-7 overall and are 3-4 in the Conference

Westfield State jumped out to an 11-2 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the opening stanza. Caroline Smart led the way with three goals on the spurt, while Blair Smith chipped in with two.

The Rams countered with six straight including three from junior Stephanie Leonard and two from senior Zoe Reilly to pull within three at 11-9 with 1:37 left in the half. Smith found the back of the next unassisted with a minute remaining to push the advantage back to four at the break.

The Owls maintained the advantage throughout the second half and extended the lead to seven (17-10) on a goal from junior Roni Orcutt with just over 20 minutes showing on the clock. The two teams traded goals before senior Nicole L’Heureux closed the scoring in the game for the Rams with an unassisted marker with 4:30 remaining.

Junior Samantha Lungarini paced the visitors with four goals and three assists, while Smith finished with four markers. Senior Stephanie Lendhardt chipped in with two goals and four assists.

The Rams were led by five goals apiece from Reilly and Leonard, while L’Heureux finished with two.

The Owls outshot the Rams 31-29 in the game and held a slim 14-10 edge in ground balls.

Junior Mimi Khampaeng earned the victory in net making 10 saves, while junior Alysha Cericola took the loss despite making five stops.
