Rams Skate To Victory in Season Opener

Framingham State University ice hockey team defeated Franklin Pierce Wednesday night at Loring Arena.

The Framingham State men’s ice hockey team opened up their 2015-16 season with a 4-1 home win over Franklin Pierce University in non-conference action Wednesday evening in Framingham.

The Rams open up at 1-0 as the Ravens slip to 0-3.

After playing a quick first period the visitors broke through for the game’s first score just over seven minutes into the second frame. Sophomore Sean Gargin beat the Rams goalie with an assist from junior Connor Mauro.

Just thirty seconds later sophomore Tyler Colacchio tied the score with assists coming from Jake McKinnon, a Framingham High product, and Vaughn Guetens.

A little over 2 minutes later the Rams took the lead for good when Guetens scored a power play goal with Lyle Haden assisting.

The Rams added an insurance goal when McKinnon scored on the power play with Keith Barnaby midway through the 3rd stanza.

Mark Essery scored an empty netter in the final minute of regulation to reach the final margin.

Junior Alessio Muggli (who hails from Switzerland) made 34 saves in the win for the Rams.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, Nov. 7, when they host Fitchburg State in the MASCAC conference opener.
