Retired Framingham Deputy Fire Chief John Corcoran, 83

Funeral Mass Saturday, June 20, at St. Michael in Hudson for the Framingham High Class of 1950 graduate.

He was the husband of 34 years to Patricia (Ryan) Corcoran of Hudson. Born and raised in Framingham, he was the son of the late John L. and Mary Eleanor (O’Brien) Corcoran.

Upon graduating from Framingham High School, class of 1950, he served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic onboard several aircraft carriers during the Korean Conflict.

Following his honorable service in the military, he worked for the Town of Framingham as a firefighter and attained the rank of Deputy Fire Chief until his retirement in 1983.

He also continued on in retirement as an instructor at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and continued with his education graduating from Worcester State University. He was a member of Local 1652, Mass Firefighters Association and the American Legion.

Upon retirement, Corcoran them embarked on his lifelong dream and circumnavigated the globe in a span of 10 years onboard 9 different sailboats by “hitchhiking” signing on as an able seaman.

Besides his wife, he is survived y his children, Kathleen Sheehan and her husband Gerald of Charlestown, John L. Corcoran, III and his wife Yasmina of San Diego, CA, Timothy Corcoran and his wife Lisa of Framingham, Kevin Corcoran and his wife Angelica of Ashland and Maria Bertrand and her husband Thomas; step daughter-in-law Carla Chartrand. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alicia, Megan, Shane, Carol Ann, Derrick, Anna, Kevin, Jr., Amanda, Joshua, Rachael and Leo and his great-grandchild, Raelynn.

Visiting hours at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St. (corner of Union Ave.), Framingham will be Friday, June 19 from 5 – 8 p.m.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Saturday June 20, 2015 at 9 a.m. at St. Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will be private at a later date.
