Scholarship Event to Honor Former Framingham Resident Joanne Kogan

Kogan, who lost her battle with cancer in 2013, was the much-beloved guidance counselor at Haynes Elementary in Sudbury.

For 25 years, Joanne Kogan worked for the Sudbury schools.

On Saturday night, March 7, family, friends, educators and more will gather to raise money for the Joanne Kogan “Feeling Teacher” Scholarship. Tickets are still available at the event Longfellow Club in Wayland.

Kogan was the much-beloved guidance counselor at the Haynes Elementary School, known affectionately as “the Feelings Teacher.” She lost her multi-year battle with appendix cancer in June 2013.

“My mother lived in Framingham for 27 years. My dad still lives in Framingham,” said Stephanie Kogan. “My brothers and I all went to Framingham Public Schools, I work at McCarthy” Elementary.

The Joanne Kogan scholarship will be awarded to a Lincoln-Sudbury student who shares “Joanne’s zest for life and compassion for children, and who demonstrates an interest in pursuing a career in school counseling, education, social work or psychology.”

The goal is to help train and nurture more caring “Feelings Teachers” like Mrs. Kogan, said organizers.

The deadline to order tickets for the scholarship fundraiser is Sunday, March 1.

The event, featuring food and music at the Longfellow Club, is Saturday, March 7 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Cost is $25 per person or $40 per couple.
