The lead character is Pippin, one of the sons of Charlemagne from the Middle Ages, but few historical details can be found in the burlesque-style musical.
The plot of the musical has a performance troupe, led by a “ringmaster-style” character telling the tale of Pippin, as the young prince searches for the meaning and significance of his life.
Th ART in Bostion recently produced a new version of Pippin, which made its way to Broadway. The production, which featured a female “ringmaster” character as opposed to the male one in the original version, won four 2013 Tony Awards® including Best Musical Revival.
The Framingham High version also has a female in the role of the “ringmaster” telling the tale of Pippin.
