Spicer Signs Statement Issued by Mayors Against Illegal Guns

"I stand with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the countless others working to end gun violence in our country,"

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Mayor Yvonne M. Spicer this week added her name to the Statement of Principles issued by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a program of Everytown for Gun Safety.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns was founded more than ten years ago, and is now a 1,000-member coalition that unites mayors across the nation to promote common sense policies to reduce gun violence, which includes extending background checks to all gun sales, fighting illegal gun trafficking, and sharing local strategies that save lives.

“I stand with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the countless others working to end gun violence in our country," said Spicer in a statement. "We cannot continue to stand by while our children are no longer safe in classrooms or public parks. We will not sit in silence or live under the threat of violence perpetuated by individuals with access to military grade firearms. We are working hard here in Framingham to keep our community safe. In partnership with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, during the 2016 Guns for Gift Cards Initiative, 174 weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were safely turned into the Framingham Police Department for proper disposal. We are planning our next gun buyback which will occur April 28 2018.”
