State Police Announce Weekend Sobriety Checkpoints

As drivers head out onto the roads and highways for the weekend, the Massachusetts State Police are preparing to conduct sobriety checkpoints in Worcester County Friday night.

"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," said Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the , in a press release. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

The Worceseter County checkpoints will be in operation Friday night, July 8 into Saturday morning, July 9. 

Motorists can expect to be randomly stopped on state roadways during that time. 

The sobriety checkpoints are put in place thanks to a grant from the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
