Superintendent Invites Parents to Meeting on High School Principal

A week after the Framingham High principal gave his resignation, the district sent a memo to parents today announcing his departure.

Framingham High School parents received an email from Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott this morning inviting them to a meeting next week to discuss the high school principal position.

The memo, dated March 10 and emailed to parents this morning, March 11, comes a week after first-year Framingham High Principal Adam Goldberg tendered his resignation on March 3.

“I am writing to inform you that Framingham High School Principal Adam Goldberg has tendered his resignation,” writes Scott.

Scott wrote in the memo he commends Goldberg in “putting the needs of the high school students and community first.”

Scott told the School Committee last week at its Tuesday meeting, Goldberg ’reluctantly’ gave his resignation.

Goldberg, submitted his resignation after having been on medical leave since December, last week. Goldberg, will be paid through June 30.

Framingham High Associate Principal Elyse Torbert has been serving as interim principal in Goldberg’s absence since early January, and will serve in that role for the remainder of the school year, said Scott.

“I now am eliciting feedback on the future leadership at the high school and would welcome hearing from parents any feedback and information you would like to share,” wrote Scott.

There will be a meeting on Monday, March 16 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the high school in room H100.

Torbert and Goldberg were named finalists for the Framingham High Principal position by Scott in June 2014, after Michael Welch announced he was leaving to become Superintendent of Schools in Dedham.

Goldberg was named principal.

Torbert was named to the newly-created position of Associate Principal at Framingham High in August 2014.

In January, when Goldberg was still on medical leave, Scott hired former Newton Superintendent of Schools Irwin Blumer to be a mentor to Torbert. Goldberg, was not given a paid mentor by the Framingham Public Schools.

In late January, Framingham high educators demanded more information on Goldberg’s leave.

Goldberg made a public statement on his medical leave in January, in which he indicated he would be back at Framingham High in March. Instead, he tendered his resignation on March 3.
