'Take An Interest In One Another': Framingham Superintendent

Framingham's superintendent created a video message welcoming students back after winter break, and focuses on school safety improvements.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Superintendent Robert Tremblay took to the video camera over the weekend to make sure he addressed the student body, parents and staff as they return to classes following not only winter break, but the shooting tragedy in Florida.

"I wanted to reach out to families and staff in the wake of the tragedy," said Tremblay, "and i'm sure what is on everyone's mind is school safety and security. We will do our best to keep our schools safe and secure. In fact, we have plans for our upcoming fiscal budget that include improved safety efforts at all our schools. The most important work we can do is spend time to improve relationships at our schools. Mental health issues are paramount."

Tremblay continued that students and staff need to work at becoming more adept at recognizing signs and signals that someone may be struggling or need attention, or be mentally disturbed. He said that no amount of security or ALICE training can replace the need to build relationships to improve schools.
