Town of Framingham Memorial Day Ceremony Monday

The Town will present the Bronze Star, Prisoner of War, and Medals of Liberty to three Framingham Families.

The Town of Framingham will hold a Memorial Day program on Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m. on the steps of the Memorial Building in downtown Framingham.

The program will include the presentation of the Bronze Star, Prisoner of War, and Medals of Liberty to three Framingham Families by Congresswoman Katherine Clark.

The Bronze Star, Army Commendation, and Prisoner of War Medals will be presented to Carolyn Sullivan, the widow of Bernard Sullivan who was captured and held prisoner by the Germans in 1944.

The Bronze Star is a United States decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Medals of Liberty will be presented to the families of T/SGT Wilfred W. Mitchel, and 2nd Lt Francis W. Moran who were both killed in action during WWII.

  • T/SGT Wilfred W. Mitchell’s aircraft was shot down during operations over Sicily on September 9, 1943. It was T/SGT Mitchell’s first combat operation.
  • 2nd Lt Francis Moran’s A-20 Havoc bomber crashed on August 17, 1944, while returning from night operations over Corsica, Italy.

Guest Speakers include Captain Douglas and Captain Alissa Morrison, both of whom are veterans of Iraq and or Afghanistan, graduates of the Eisenhower Leader Development Program and are currently assigned to the US Military Academy at West Point. Captain Douglas Morrison is a Framingham High School graduate.

Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts are invited to participate in the short parade to the steps of the Memorial Building, along with Veterans. Scouts should meet at 10:30 a.m. in the Memorial Building parking lot in uniform.
