Vice Principal Leaving Framingham Public Schools

The middle school vice principal was hired in July 2014.

Cameron Middle School Vice Principal Ian Charles “has accepted a position in another district for the 2015 school year,” wrote Cameron Principal Michelle Melick to parents Friday night.

Charles was hired in July 2014 to replace Patrick Johnson, who became Walsh Middle School Principal for the 2014-15 school year.

Charles recently was assigned to the Parent Information Center in April.

Framingham Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott said the move was needed as the “PIC requires additional staff and we have not been able to allocate more staff there.” Scott said the “Cameron VP will be helping through the heavy registration season.”

Teacher Ken Hamm was then appointed as interim assistant principal at Cameron in April.

Charles was an assistant principal in the Somerville School District before coming to Framingham.

When hired Scott said “I was impressed by his administrative vision of being part of a school that embraces all students, encourages individualism, and promotes greater academic achievement of all students and staff through continued professional collaboration.”

Melick told parents “due to the late date, we will advertise for an interim assistant principal for the 2015-2016 school year.”

Hamm will continue in the roll of interim assistant principal for the remainder of the school year.

Charles is the second vice principal Scott has hired, who has left after his first year.

In 2013, Scott hired Gerson Colon as vice principal at Fuller Middle School. He came to Framingham from Dracut Public Schools, as did Scott. In April 2014, he was placed on extended leave and was not with the Framingham School District for the 2014-15 school year.

Charles is another in a list of administrators who have left the Framingham Public Schools, including the former Assistant Superintendent of Schools Mark Prince who stayed only a year, Stapleton Principal Joseph Smith who resigned less than a year on the job, and Framingham High School Principal Adam Goldberg who resigned in March after starting in July 2014.
