WalshBots Team Qualifies for VEX Robotics World Championships

For the second year in a row, a team from Walsh Middle School will compete at the VEX Robotics World Championships.

Yesterday, five WalshBot teams made it to the quarterfinals of the Southern New England Skyrise Championships held at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester.

The top four teams in the Skyrise competition would qualify for the the VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.

WalshBot team 9791C “C-cret Agentz” secured one one of those spots.

The Walsh Middle School team formed an alliance and was crowned Tournament Champions, along with Down Cellar from Goering Home School of Marlborough and Burncoat Middle School of Worcester.

Members of the Walsh “C-cret Agentz” team are Ryan Memmott, Brendan Qi and Reid Xu. They will represent Framingham in Kentucky, in April.

The World Championships is a four-day robotics-engineering tournament that will attract more than 800 teams and 15,000 students from over 25 countries.

Cameron Middle School also fielded a team yesterday in the Southern New England Skyrise Championships quarterfinals.

Today, Framingham High continues its 2-day competition in the Southern New England Regional Skyrise Championships. The Flyers team includes WalshBot alumni members Varun Tekur, Akin Shah and Joey Wolpert, who won the Excellence Award at last year’s VEX Robotics New England Championship.

Other Walsh teams competing yesterday included:

  • 9791B “Robot Raiders” - Akshay Dupuguntula, Jon Carlos O’Neil and Anuraj Nair.
  • 9791 “Axle” - Liam Neal-Reilly, Maclolm Levey, Nicholas Heineman, Samual Moffat and Nicholas Tessitore
  • 9791D - Isobel Garrett, Joey Fintonis, Thomas O’Neil, and Arjun Ramachandrula
  • 9791F - ROAR - Maddy Wissler, Makala St. Cyr, and Trisha Larios
