Why Are Flags at Half-Staff Today?

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has ordered that the U.S. flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff on Monday.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Monday, June 29, in honor of PFC Peter J. Handibode, U.S. Marine Corps, of Weymouth, Mass., who died on June 20, 2015.

This gubernatorial order applies to:

  • The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth.
  • Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings.
  • All state military installations.
