You Are Special: Amy Cheever

The Brophy Elementary teacher is "a remarkable educator and a caring and generous individual."

The annual Salute program recognizes Framingham teachers and staff who go the extra mile to make each day “special” in our public schools. These teachers and staff are given a “You Are Special” designation and are publicly recognized as part of the Salute to Framingham.

Editor’s note: Framingham Patch is publishing all 23 honorees profiles between now and the end of the school year, so the community can recognize the employee. Below is the profile of Cheever as it was read to the sold-out crowd of more than 500 people on Thursday, March 26.

She joined the Brophy first grade team six years ago. The dedication that she has brought, and continues to bring, has been a motivating force for her students, their families and her colleagues.

Amy is well-known for her expertise in literacy, but she brings a deeper understanding of all subjects to her students.

In addition, she is a recipient of many Framingham Education Foundation grants which allows her to spark students’ reading and writing experiences with genre studies, reader’s theater, and varied opportunities for academic conversation.

She works enthusiastically with staff members to improve student literacy and engagement at Brophy. As a cohort 1 LAB teacher she models reader’s workshop lessons and collaborates with staff members to strengthen reading instruction for all students.

With the help of members on the Literacy Committee, she has initiated reading challenges, lead assemblies and organized a variety of reading activities that promote and encouraging students to read more. She also has been in the forefront of organizing Brophy Summer Reading Nights which allows all Brophy students to continue reading over the summer with staff members and their peers at the Framingham Public Library.

She is a remarkable educator and a caring and generous individual.

Your first graders and your colleagues all agree, Amy Cheever - You Are Special
