You Are Special: Joanne Rogan
The Fuller Middle School teacher's "efforts to engage the community has had a powerful and lasting impact on student learning."

Joanne Rogan was one of 23 Framingham School employees honored at the 23rd Annual Salute to Framingham.
The annual Salute program recognizes Framingham teachers and staff who go the extra mile to make each day “special” in our public schools. These teachers and staff are given a “You Are Special” designation and are publicly recognized as part of the Salute to Framingham.
Editor’s note: Framingham Patch is publishing all 23 honorees profiles between now and the end of the school year, so the community can recognize the employee. Below is the profile of Rogan as it was read to the sold-out crowd of more than 500 people on Thursday, March 26.

One of this year’s Fuller recipients of the Framingham “You Are Special” award goes to a person whose efforts to engage the community has had a powerful and lasting impact on student learning.
She has worked at Fuller Middle School for nearly 20 years, and has been a model and pioneer in the way of making connections with community organizations for the benefit of student learning. She has persevered to bring in science programs and scientists to supplement the curriculum, and to promote career development in the STEM field. She was way ahead of her time, and now that Fuller is a STEAM school, we are learning from her about connecting with the community in such impactful ways as she has done.
Within the school community, her abilities and efforts are notable: She is always looking for instructional strategies that will create access for English Language Learners and for students with disabilities.
She has been a Team Leader in the past, and is currently on the STEAM Team. She is the co-advisor of a popular student club, “Future Scientists and Engineers.” She is a strong collaborator and problem-solver and she models having a growth mindset every day for her colleagues and students.
Besides the strong partnerships she has created with the Genzyme Science Kids Program, the McAuliffe
Center and Planetarium at Framingham State University, and the DIGITS Program (sponsored by the Retired School Volunteers Association), she has continued to maintain an unwavering focus and determination that all Fuller students receive the best science instruction possible.
For these reasons and many more, Joanne Rogan - You Are Special!
