You Are Special: Margaret Fawley
The name Margaret Fawley is equally synonymous with literacy at Barbieri School.

Barbieri Elementary School teacher Margaret Fawley was one of 23 Framingham School employees honored at the 23rd Annual Salute to Framingham.
The annual Salute program recognizes Framingham teachers and staff who go the extra mile to make each day “special” in our public schools. These teachers and staff are given a “You Are Special” designation and are publicly recognized as part of the Salute to Framingham.
Editor’s note: Framingham Patch plans to publish all 23 honorees profiles between now and the end of the school year, so the community can recognize the employee. Below is the profile of Fawley, as it was read to the sold-out crowd of more than 500 people Thursday, March 26.

The name Margaret Fawley is equally synonymous with literacy at Barbieri School. She has worked at Barbieri for almost 20 years. Having previously worked and studied at Harvard, Margaret has brought a high level of expertise and academic inquiry to her coaching at Barbieri. She has led numerous workshops and taught graduate courses at both the school and the district level. She has authored many curricula and instructional units.
Margaret has an unassuming, non-judgmental style, making new and experienced teachers alike feel at ease with her support. She is always available for individual teachers, grade levels or teams. She can as easily jump into co-teaching a lesson as she can assess an individual student, present at a parent meeting, co-plan a lesson or unit or prepare a presentation and make it look easy.
Margaret has also coordinated our after school support program for struggling students. A program begun by former principal, Minerva Gonzalez, Margaret has identified the students and teachers, planned the pre and post assessments, searched out curriculum materials and monitored the budget.
Finally, through the efforts and coordination of Margaret and Rebecca, Barbieri has a bilingual literacy library to rival any in the state. Students and teachers can choose from an incredible variety of materials to support their literacy instruction and development.
The staff and students of Barbieri School are incredibly enriched and supported by the Margaret’s work!
