Your Are Special: Rachel Carlson

Rachel Carlson was one of 23 Framingham School employees honored at the 23rd Annual Salute to Framingham.

The annual Salute program recognizes Framingham teachers and staff who go the extra mile to make each day “special” in our public schools. These teachers and staff are given a “You Are Special” designation and are publicly recognized as part of the Salute to Framingham.

Once again, the McCarthy School is proud to recognize a true professional who has been committed to improving the educational experience at our school. Since the day Rachel Carlson arrived at McCarthy, it has been her mission to transform the library into a modern, child friendly media center that is both inviting and useful. She has been tireless in her efforts to obtain new books and work with the classroom teachers to stock the shelves with literature and reference material that support our curriculum. Whether writing a new grant or searching for cost savings, Rachel continues to exhaust all possibilities of improving our selections.

Working as a member of our Literacy Committee, Rachel has also been instrumental in improving the overall literary experience of McCarthy students. Each spring, the Read Across America Week is a fabulous opportunity for students and staff to share their love of reading. Rachel has been organizing and coordinating the various activities
during this week for the past few years.

Most importantly, she has been extremely successful in booking visits from authors and illustrators who share their craft with our students.

We are very proud of our beautiful library at the McCarthy School – and we owe a debt of gratitude to Rachel Carlson, a fabulous library assistant. We are so pleased to be able to honor her tonight.
