Hospital Upgrades Condition of Officer Struck Tuesday in Hamilton
Officer Zachery Bird suffered serious injuries Tuesday when he and another officer were struck by a car while working a detail in Hamilton.

Ipswich police officer Zachery Bird has been upgraded to “good” condition at Beverly Hospital.
Bird and fellow Ipswich officer David Harrell were working a police detail on Route 1A in Hamilton Tuesday morning when a vehicle struck the men. Harrell was treated for minor injuries and released while Bird suffered “extensive injuries to his lower extremities” and remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon.
Hamilton police Lt. Scott Janes said the crash remains under investigation and there is no word as to whether any charges will be filed.

According to police statements, a 23-year-old Salem man was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck the officers, who were standing on the side of the road at the time of the crash.
