Trucks Are Rolling As Market Basket Gets Back to Business

Arthur T. takes back day-to-day operations and welcomes associates back to work to get stores ready for customers once again.

Following the announcement Wednesday night that Arthur T. Demoulas is back at the helm of the Market Basket chain, the push is on to get stores ready to greet customers. Delivery trucks were rolling Thursday morning to get markets void of product for almost two months stocked and ready to deliver.

Arthur T. in a statement late Wednesday night said all associates are welcome back to work today with the former management team to resume the company back to normal operations. Early Thursday morning, WHDH TV, 7-News confirmed with Market Basket officials that all eight Market Basket managers fired during the walk-off are back to work.

It’s reported the former CEO and his shareholders paid $1.5 billion to take back ownership of the remaining 50.5 percent shares of the company. Arthur T. was ousted in June when a majority of the company’s board shifted in support of Arthur T.’s cousin and rival, Arthur S. Demoulas.

Immediately following Wednesday’s decision, Arthur T. returned to take back the day-to-day operational authority of the company, according to a statement from Arthur T.

He and his management team will return during the interim period while the transaction to purchase the chain is completed, it was announced in a statement from Arthur T. Current co-CEOs Felicia Thornton and James Gooch will remain in place pending the closing which is expected to take several months.

“The shareholders and the Company would like to thank Market Basket customers and partners for their strong support through the years,” the statement said. “Our shared goal is to return Market Basket to the supermarket that its customers have come to rely on for service, quality and best prices. We look forward to seeing you at your local Market Basket.”
