Person Dies Attempting To Rescue Dogs From Holliston House Fire

The home had dozens of animals inside, all of which also died in the flames.

HOLLISTON, MA — A house fire in Holliston left one person and several animals dead Tuesday morning.

The fire started at 11:38 p.m. on Monday in a home on Winter Street. Fire officials said more than a dozen dogs were inside. Two people escaped the fire, but one ran back in to try to rescue the animals.

Fire crews went in and rescued the person. Both people were brought to the hospital, where one died of their injuries. The State Department of Fire Services only identified the person as a woman.

Fire crews tried to resuscitate several dogs but none survived. Between 15 and 20 dogs died.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
