5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 4

1.  Student Council is excited to announce the first ever sixth and seventh grade dance taking place this Friday, May 4th. Sixth grade students will now have an opportunity to celebrate with the seventh grade students as the year winds down (eighth grade students have their own opportunity to celebrate the end of the year with a dance in Washington DC as well as their Eighth Grade Celebration). The dance begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. Money and permission slips must be turned in together and may be brought to the guidance office or brought directly to the dance on Friday night.

2. Those of you that have served our country in the armed services are invited to attend the  at the . Breakfast starts at 9 a.m., chipped beef and "from scratch" biscuits will be served.

3. Tonight in the Hopkinton High School auditorium there will be a talent show to raise money for The Jimmy Fund in honor of Allison Lundy who lost her life to cancer in January. The show starts at 7 p.m.

4. This weekend  will be premiering their newest show.   is an original musical revue featuring numbers from such recent Broadway shows as Avenue Q, Billy Elliot, Legally Blonde, Mary Poppins, The Music Man, Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, Sunday in the Park with George, Spelling Bee, Spamalot and Wicked.  Broadway Today was written and directed by Denise Laumeister. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Hopedale High School. 

5. The number five is a great number for this weekend. May is the fifth month of the year and tomorrow is the fifth day of the month; a.k.a. Cinco de Mayo. Pull out the margaritas, sombreros, and tacos to celebrate Mexican heritage and pride, but I've always seen it is more of a seasonal holiday to celebrate the coming of summer.
